Born in Hartford on Oct. 30, 1929, he was the son of the late Abraham and Louise Hatten.
He leaves his devoted and beloved wife of 62 years, Marie (Streicher) Hatten; three sons, Wayne and Pam Hatten, David Hatten and Mark and Linda Hatten; seven grandchildren, Marie Hatten and Colleen Supple, Laura and John Michael O'Brien, Aliza Hatten, David R. Hatten, Charlie and Krissie Hatten, Michael and Kim Hatten and Jeffrey Hatten; and six great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sisters, May Sack, Jeana and Irving Press and Sandra Satell. He was predeceased by three brothers-in-law, Joseph Streicher, Jr., Richard Satell and Harold Sack. Charlie and his wife, Marie, met at a young age in Hartford while they were both professional roller skaters. It was love at first sight and the two were only apart during the time Charlie served active duty in the U.S. Army in Korea for two years earning a Bronze Service Medal; prior to that he was a member of the U.S. National Guard. Charlie started and ran multiple businesses in Meriden: Capitol Auto Seat, Capitol Auto Services, and Capitol Auto Wash. He was the founder of the Sound of Music in Meriden and was a co-founder of Connecticut Telephone, headquartered in Wallingford. He was an extremely hard worker, dedicated to his family, friends, employees and customers. Charlie will be remembered for his generosity by all those whose lives he touched. His passion for boating and fishing became the center of his family leisure activity with his wife, children and some grandchildren while making lifelong friends in Mystic, Montauk, Palm Beach and the Bahamas. Charlie defied medical odds many times during his later years. This was due to his strength and will to survive and because of the total dedication and loving care given to him by his wife, Marie and son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Pam Hatten.
A private burial service will be held. Donations may be made to: Phillip and Carol Traub Parkinson's Center, 72780 Country Club Drive, Rancho Mirage, Ca. 92270.
