A kind-hearted soul, Gerard also found fulfillment in caring for neighborhood stray cats, ensuring they were well-fed and had fresh water. He retired in 2001 from Mount Sinai Medical Center, where he had been employed since 1977.
Gerard was predeceased by his parents, Gaston Rezir and Clarisse Gaspard, and his younger sisters, Gertha Gaspard and Janine Caesar.
