NEXER, Barry Michael, beloved brother, uncle, and granduncle, passed away peacefully on July 15th. Born on June 22, 1956, in Philadelphia, he will be deeply missed for the kind, appreciative, innocent, and angelic energy he brought to those around him.
In his own unique way, he was a teacher of living in the moment, accepting people exactly as they are without an iota of judgment, of being grateful for the simple things in life, of engaging by always asking questions about how others were doing, and just exuding an aura of sweetness.
He had the innate talent of a beautiful singing voice; he was the lead actor in The King and I in his high school play, and he entertained his family singing and playing the piano throughout the years.
He was a devoted son to his father, Max Nexer, and mother, Sylvia Nexer (both predeceased). He dedicated the last half of his life -- and, it was his “mission” -- to care for them with unwavering devotion and support. He was a loving brother to his sisters, Simone David, Eileen Nexer, and Roslyn Nexer Freeman (predeceased.)
He was a precious uncle to Debbie Sootin Foley (Dan Foley), Richard Freeman, Adam Freeman, Sheryl David Fleishman (Scott Fleishman), Jonahan David (Laura Pena), and Dr. Jeffrey Sootin (Jenna Sootin).
And, he was a loving granduncle to Ryan Foley, Julia Foley, Rebecca Fleischman, Zachary Sootin and Matthew Sootin. Also, so very dear to him were Maritza Mendoza who provided loving care to him and his mother and who became “an honorary sister,” and Nelly Vazquez, who has been a treasured member of the family for over forty years.
Barry left an indelible imprint in our hearts that will become sweeter and sweeter over time. There will be a void that will puncture our days when we again become aware that his gentle presence is no longer on earth. But, his innocent, loving energy will forever live in our hearts.
A chapel and burial for Barry will be held Friday, July 21, 2023 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at Lakeside Memorial Park and Funeral Home, 10301 NW 25th Street, Miami, FL 33172.
