Roger was born on April 23, 1956, in El Dorado, Arkansas to Virgil and Margie Short. He received his degree in construction management from the University of Louisiana Monroe in 1983 and moved to Little Rock, Arkansas to begin his work in construction with Baldwin & Shell. On December 13, 1995 he married Carla Dawn Short. Together, they raised a beautiful, blended family of four sons and a daughter.
Roger had a passion for music and played the harmonica and guitar. He also enjoyed golf, riding his motorcycle, and loved fishing and being on a beach. He had a quick wit, infectious smile, fantastic hair, and stylish accessories. Stubborn and strong willed, he lived his life on his own terms. His favorite thing, however, was being “Poppa Rog” and making his grandchildren smile.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Margie Short. He is survived by his wife, Carla, his children, Ryan Short, David (Crystal) Woodall, Allison (Charleston) Weaver, Chaice (Cindy) Woodall, Kyle (Jess) Short, and 10 grandchildren, and his sister Phyliss. A memorial will be held on Saturday, March 19, from 3 – 5 pm at The Bernice Garden on Main Street in Little Rock. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association
