Joseph Phillip Walker, 57, of Sherwood passed away on Tuesday, January 4, 2022. Joe was born in Bastrop, Louisiana on July 7, 1964; the son of Clayburn and Dovie (House) Walker. Joe was a 911 dispatcher for Little Rock for over 27 years. This is where he first met his wife Alieta (Bell) Walker. They shared 25 years of marriage. Joe was a member of the First Baptist Church Sherwood. His many joys included hiking, golf, genealogy, the Civil War; and anything and everything having to do with history. He authored several books, and had a special interest in the Battle of Jenkins’ Ferry.
Joe leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife Alieta Walker, his daughter Lauren Elizabeth Walker and her fiancé Hayden Rhodes; his son Stephen Ryan Walker, all of Sherwood AR.; brothers Gary Fitzhugh and his wife Jalane of Benton AR. and Jim Cross and his wife Karen of Washington state; sisters Joyce Robertson and her husband Ronnie of Benton AR. and Tawanna Newcomb and her husband Michael of Benton AR.; as well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his infant twin siblings Patricia and Pat Cross, and a sister LoLeita Lewallyn.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 from 5:00-8:00pm at Griffin Leggett Rest Hills, North Little Rock. Funeral Services with Honors will be conducted at First Baptist Church, Sherwood on Wednesday, January 12, 2022 beginning at 10:00 am. Burial will follow services in Ebenezer Cemetery in Tull, AR.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joe’s honor to support the Grant County Museum in Sheridan, AR.
