Bob Schneider was a friend to everyone he met. His sense of humor and kindness remained with him, even in the darkest times. Born in Brooklyn, NY on September 2, 1927, he enjoyed many activities growing up such as body building, skating and swimming. A natural in the water, he continued his love of all things aquatic by learning how to sail and snorkeling in warm, blue water. Bob started working for the A&P grocery store when he was 16 years old and except for serving in the Army during World War II, worked there continuously for 40 years. He did every job imaginable from stocking shelves to assistant bookkeeper to finally becoming a deli manager.
Bob met Nancy, his future wife, while working at the A&P, dated for 5 years and married on February 20, 1955. They bought a home in Levittown, NY and a year later, their only child, Jody, was born. Bob enjoyed working with his hands, doing home improvements on his own, after putting in a full day's work. He was a proud gardener, growing a large variety of vegetables and fruit in his impeccable backyard. Bob was also famous for his wine making, having many weekend adventures with his family and friends. Both Bob and Nancy loved to travel, driving across country several times to see his beloved national parks, taking cruises from Alaska to the Panama Canal and even going to Europe on a bus tour of Spain and Portugal.
When the winters became too harsh, like many New Yorkers, they decided to retire to the warmth and sun of Florida in the 1980's. There, Bob served on the homeowners association board and for a time, was the president of the men's club. He continued his love of gardening, bowling and swimming where you could find him almost every morning at the community pool. A deeply religious man, both Bob and Nancy were members of St. Malachy Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in his name to The Humane Society, Wounded Warriors or Arthritis Foundation. Bob will be greatly missed by all who knew him and remembered for his kind heart and joking ways.
