Oscar was born to Esteban Galicia and Hortencia Franco on August 5, 1936, in Guatemala. Oscar lived a life marked by humility, dedication, and versatility, reflected in his varied careers as a teacher, carpenter, plumber, and janitor. He was an extraordinary man who acted like an ordinary one.
Oscar’s loving spirit is carried on by his loving wife, Irma D. Galicia; daughter, Irma C. Galicia; sons, Carlos E. Bonilla and Luis Fernando Galicia; grandsons, Carlos A. Bonilla, Edward X. Bonilla, Luis Fernando Galicia, Nenno A Bonilla, and Joseph H Bonilla; and great-grandson, Luke A. Bonilla. Also mourning his loss is Luna, his cherished dog. Preceding him in peace were his parents, Esteban and Hortencia, and sister Hilda Argentina.
He was an amazing Dad and loved his family tremendously, always wanting the best for them. Oscar was a very kind, funny, and generous person. He loved to laugh, joke around, and eat sweets. He loved spending time with his family and had an amazing amount of patience for everything and everyone. Family often made sure that Oscar was the first one at the table to start eating because they knew he would always be the last to finish. He would say “You have to savor the food and enjoy every bite what’s the hurry”.
One of Oscar’s greatest passions was listening to music. Oscar had the opportunity to travel to various countries with his daughter and he would always bring back music from his travel to share with family and friends. You would often see him dancing in place with a smile on his face enjoying the beats even when it was in a different language. His daughter would always ask him do you understand the lyrics? To which he would always respond “no I don’t need to understand what they are saying, but the rhythm is beautiful just listen”.
In addition to music Oscar also enjoyed being in the kitchen and cooking for his family and friends. He always prepared his dishes with great care, love, and he effortlessly transformed ordinary ingredients into extraordinary meals leaving everyone craving more.
To honor Oscar’s life, services will be held at Pierce Brothers Valhalla Memorial Park and Mortuary on Friday, October 18, at 5:00 p.m. for the viewing and Saturday, October 19, at 10:00 a.m. for funeral services. Those who knew him will remember Oscar as a man of many skills and a loving family man. Friends, family, and those whose lives were touched by Oscar are welcome to pay their respects.
