Mary Louise Shepherd, 88, passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2013, in Los Angeles, California. She was born July 20, 1925, to Nels Peter and Agnes Louise Brown in Ogden, Utah. Her parents traveled to Ogden so that she could be born in the midst of her family, after which they returned to their home in Los Angeles where she spent the rest of her life.
In 1941, Mary graduated from Dorsey High School and took a job as a bookkeeper with the Pacific Telephone Company. She remained with the telephone company until her marriage in 1949 to Harry Shepherd, becoming a homemaker and stay-at-home mom. While raising her four sons she served on boards of the PTA and several youth groups. Mary’s hobbies included needlepoint, knitting, sewing, reading and solving cross-word puzzles.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Harry, son Jeffrey, father and mother, brother William Brown, sister Alice Hoppert, father and mother in-laws Harry and Adella Shepherd, brother in-laws George Hoppert and Frank Shepherd, and sister in-law Agnes Brown. She is survived by her sons, Dr. James Shepherd (Kathy) of Independence, KY, Robert Shepherd of Los Angeles CA, Jonathon Shepherd (Jeannette) of Camarillo, CA, daughter in-law Laurel Shepherd of Kingman AZ, sister in-law Greet Shepherd of Corona CA, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and cousins.
Visitation followed by a service will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. with interment at 11:30 a.m., Monday, October 7, at Valhalla Memorial Park and Mortuary, 10621 Victory Blvd. North Hollywood, CA
