Kay was born December 17, 1938 in Oklahoma and proud of her Choctaw heritage. She was the only child of John and Audi Boyd. Kay is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Brian and Claudia, and Bruce and Melissa. She is also survived by her grandchildren Michelle Basura, Michael Basura, John Basura and Amanda Santangelo; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and countless friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Her passion was and had always been her husband, family, and her nursing career of 47 years. Her boys remember her involvement in their school’s PTA, as a nursing student, and as a hardworking Kaiser Permanente ER nurse and union representative. Kay definitely was the glue that kept a family sticking together. Her family gatherings and pool parties are well remembered as she was not only the best of hostesses, but very often the center of attention with her jokes and warm smile.
When her husband of 66 years became ill, she lovingly and compassionately cared for him for three years until his passing on January 4, 2024. With the skills of a nurse of many years, she accomplished what many younger people would find hard to do.
At this time of morning, the family will not be having a funeral service; but anticipates that in the future there will be a celebration of her life and that of her recently departed husband Michael (Mike) Basura.
Kay, you and Mike are together now as you were in life. Let your love remain together forever at peace as you both live on in our hearts.
We love you always.
