Felix Gil passed away Friday May 5, 2023, after a brief illness. Felix, the cat, was born in Los Angeles in September 1954, but grew up in Sun Valley, Ca. He attended Roscoe Elementary, Sun Valley Jr. High and then J. Francis Polytechnic HS, graduating in 1972. He was a fixture on Keswick Street where he lived over 60 years in his childhood home before moving to Winchester, Ca. 3 years ago to be closer to his daughter and grandchildren.
Felix played baseball with the SV Little League in the 1960’s. Playing on the Yankees and the Indians. He was also a “paper boy” for the SV Record Ledger at that time. Felix was a friend to everyone he would meet. His infectious smile and good nature made him unforgettable. He remained friends with so many people over the years like Albert Leos and Ronnie Alvarez with whom he has been friends with for over 50 years. No matter where he went, he knew someone. You could not go into a restaurant, store, or airport with Felix without him knowing at least 1 person.
Felix met his wife Kathleen in 1971 and married in 1978. Felix and “the Kat” were inseparable. They loved spending time outdoors. If they were not camping with the neighborhood Van Club, houseboating or camping at Lake Mead, Lake Mojave, “the river” or the beach would be on the list of things to do that weekend. Felix and Kathy had one daughter Melissa, who was the “light of their life.”
Felix was a successful businessman. He owned and operated Arcadia Addressing Co. for over 30 years. The business specialized in bulk mailing and printing. (All that junk mail you receive. You can blame it on Felix!) After selling the business he worked for Ford Mailing Company before retiring in 2018.
Felix will be missed by so many. He was an amazing son, brother, dad, grandpa, uncle, and friend. The best you could ever have.
Felix is preceded in death by his wife Kathleen Sherman Gil, his brother Raymond Gil, and his father Feliciano Gil. He is survived by his daughter Melissa and granddaughters Calleigh and Camdyn of Winchester, Ca; His mother Gloria Gil, sisters Debra Gil Bartley and Carrie Gil Slakoff and his brother Michael Gil.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 10th at Valhalla Memorial Park in North Hollywood.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation (pcrf-kids.org) or Childrens Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA.ORG) in his honor.
