Shane Catherine Reese Morey, 53, a native of Charleston, SC, passed away at home on December 6, 2024. Throughout a long and challenging battle with cancer, Shane remained positive, brave, and serene. She was born November 14, 1971 to Sara Jo Powell Reese and Michael E. Reese. After graduating from Bishop England High School in 1990, she earned her Bachelor of Arts in English from the College of Charleston in 1994 and her Master’s degree in speech-language pathology from the University of South Carolina in 1996. Shane enjoyed a career in both the educational and healthcare fields, where she thrived on caring for and helping others. She worked in the Dorchester County school system, at MUSC, and most recently at Summerville Medical Center. She had a clinical certification as a CCC-SLP with the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA).
Shane was a cheerleader in her younger days and was the coxswain of the C of C crew team in college. She enjoyed being on the beach, flowers and gardening, bird watching, and spending time with her family and her many friends. Shane was blessed to love the work that she did, especially her work with babies and children. She loved her Savior Jesus, who walked every step with her through all of life’s battles.
Shane is lovingly remembered by her two daughters Lily Grace Morey and Alaina Catherine Morey, who were the light of her life, as well as her parents Sara and Mike, two sisters Kimberley Reese Seabrook (Antonio) and Paige Reese Whitaker, and many nieces and nephews. The family is bereft, and the world a little less bright without her beauty, laughter, loving nature, kindness, and joy.
Shane was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Thomas (Joe) G. and Sara Kempson Powell of N. Charleston, SC and her paternal grandparents Vernon E and Myrtle G Reese of Canton, OH.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, December 12 from 6pm to 8pm at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Ave North Charleston, SC 29406. Funeral services will be held at Divine Redeemer Catholic Church, 1106 Fort Drive Hanahan, SC 29410, at 11am on Friday, December 13. Shane will be laid to rest thereafter at Magnolia Cemetery.
