Hanahan - A devoted husband, dad and grandpa, as well as a retired US Navy Boiler Technician Petty Officer First Class, entered into Heaven on Wednesday, September 22, 2021. He was born at home on January 13, 1955 in Pettigrew, Arkansas, the baby boy of Erma Ellen and Roland Alexander Owens. Ottis proudly served in the United States Navy for 21 years defending our freedom.
Ottis was married to the love of his life, Shirley Mae (Langley) who succeeded him in death by only six hours. After the Navy, Ottis was employed and eventually retired from Georgia Pacific and Robert Bosch Corp. He is survived by his two children; Christina Adeline (Damien) and Thomas Owens (Rhynne). His grandchildren; Anna Owens (5), Esmae Adeline (4), Ace Owens (4), and by extension, Cody Unruh (18). His siblings; Willis Owens (Sherry), Gary Dean Owens (Sheila), Wendell Owens (Sue), Lisa Shelby (Ronnie) and Frances Terry. Preceded in death by his parents Roland and Erma Owens.
Ottis was a wonderful dad and grandpa. He loved his grandchildren with passion, and they were his pride and joy. He was loved by all who met him, never met a stranger, and always waved hello. He will be missed by all of his loved ones and remembered as a fun-loving guy who teased the ones he loved.
Full military honor services for Ottis Owens will be on Friday, October 8, 2021, 11:30 a.m. at Tri-City Baptist Church, 152 Lazy Hill Road, Moncks Corner, SC 29461. A visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ottis’ name to Tri-City Baptist Church Kids/Youth Ministry.
