Orin Le Roy Barnum, lovingly known as Barney, age 56, of North Charleston, SC, passed away on December 9, 2024. He was born on May 2, 1968, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Orin and Myrtle Fowler Barnum.
Barney graduated from Foss High School in Tacoma, Washington, before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1987. He served proudly as a sonar technician until 1996. Following his military service, Barney pursued further education and training, ultimately establishing a successful career as an automotive mechanic.
Known for his love of adventure, Barney was passionate about riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and enjoyed sipping Mountain Dew. He was a dedicated fan of the Seattle Seahawks, a deeply patriotic man, and above all, a loving family man. He also cherished his beloved Cane Corso, Bella.
Barney is survived by his wife of 29 years, Lorie Ellis Barnum; his mother, Pat Barnum of Moses Lake, WA; his brother Bill Barnum of Port Orchard, WA; his sisters, Angie Roach of Moses Lake, WA and Shabria Barnum of Moses Lake, WA. He leaves behind a legacy of five children: Elisa Totherow (Robert) of Marble, NC, Corey Barnum (Jaclyn) of Cummings, GA, Ashley Petersen (Daryl) of Charlotte, NC, Brianna Barnum (Charles Jr.) of Charleston, SC, and Austin Barnum of Charleston, SC; and six grandchildren: Landon, Braxton, and Willow Totherow, Joseph and Serenity Petersen, and Peyton Barnum, along with a grand-pup, Ivory Yuki.
He is preceded in death by his father, Orin Barnum, and his brother, Orange Barnum, and sister, Kayleen Huxhold.
A visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, December 16, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406. A graveside service, with military honors, will follow at 2:00 PM at Carolina Memorial Park.
