It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Joseph Sanders III, a cherished soul who departed this world on December 15, 2023, at the age of 81. As a resident of Summerville, SC, Joseph's final moments were peacefully spent surrounded by his devoted family.
Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Carolyn Sanders, whose steadfast companionship was a source of strength throughout his life. He leaves behind a legacy of love and warmth through his two daughters, Susan Sievers (RJ Sievers) and Alice Hardy (Justin Johnson). His memory lives on in the hearts of his grandchildren: Makayla West (Cooper Hinson), Jordan Hardy (Justin Ferro), Reagan Hardy, Logan Hardy, and Murray West; as well as his great-granddaughter, Piper West.
Preceding Joseph in death were his mother, Mabel B. Sanders, his father, Joseph B. Sanders II, and his sister, Annette Sanders. Together in eternity, their spirits rest in peace.
Joseph's life was a tapestry woven with diverse interests and passions. An avid golfer, a skilled gardener, and a master of wood crafting, he found joy in the simple pleasures of life. His favorite moments were spent surrounded by the laughter and love of his grandchildren.
During his professional journey, Joseph began as a machinist apprentice at the Naval Shipyard. Over the years, his dedication and expertise led him to retire as a respected foreman in shop planning of the nuclear section at the Charleston Naval Shipyard.
A man of faith, Joseph was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints, finding solace and community in his spiritual journey. He also enjoyed the camaraderie of the Berkeley Country Club, where friendships were forged on the green.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at a visitation on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, from 1-2 PM at the chapel of Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 2 PM, with interment at Carolina Memorial Gardens. As we gather to honor Joseph's life, let us remember him not only for the roles he played but for the love he shared and the indelible mark he left on our hearts.
