Rosie was born September 5, 1927 , in Wolica, Poland to Antoni Bonczak and Anna Kowalik.
She was taken from her family and home by German Nazis at the age of 14 to Germany. Rosie relocated to America as a "displaced person". Her journey onboard the USS General M.L. Hersey landed her on the shores of Ellis Island, December 26, 1951. She married Edwin Norman Ward on May 8, 1956 in Kingsland, Georgia. She was a homemaker and avid gardener. She provided childcare for many children. Rosie lived a life of service to her friends and neighbors. She was very active in her beloved church, Holmes Avenue Baptist Church.
Rosie is survived by her loving daughters; Linda Ward Gatti and Karen Ward. She has three grandchildren; Justin Ward Gatti (Heather Lorraine Gatti), Ashley Elizabeth Rose Coomes (Grant Marion Coomes), and Kala Marisa Ward. She was blessed with four beautiful great-grandchildren; Parker Joseph Coomes, Elizabeth Marion Coomes (Ellie), Kylie Lorraine Crawford-Gatti and Joseph Kash Gatti. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Jackie Ward and numerous nieces and nephews here in America as well as in Poland.
Rosie is pre-deceased by her husband of 65 years, Edwin Norman Ward. Her parents; Antoni and Anna, her sister, Katarzyna and her brother, Jan,
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2023, 10:00 am. to 11:30 am. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 11:30 am. in the Chapel at Carolina Memorial Park, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406. The burial will follow in the Carolina Memorial Park.
Lunch will be provided for the family by her church family at Holmes Avenue Baptist, 4602 Durant Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29405 following the burial.
