Frank Abbott Garvin (“Abbott”), 92, of Hanahan, a retired Maintenance Supervisor with WESTVACO and widower of Eddie Lou Garvin, was called home by Jesus for his eternal rest Monday, October 16, 2017. Abbott was born December 26, 1924 in Wagener, SC, a son of the late Annie Lou Miller and Ottice J. Garvin. He was a longtime resident of Hanahan, SC, since 1949. He was a strong Christian husband for 70 years, father and grandfather, who actively shared Christ with everyone he came into contact with. He was a member of Highland Park Baptist Church. He taught and was a Sunday School Director for over 50 years. Dad loved to study God’s Word. He was a Poll Manager for Berkeley County, served on the first Hanahan Public Service Commission before Hanahan became a city, and enjoyed traveling across the United States, Europe, China, and Far East. He liked to have family and friends over for dinner and fellowship. If anyone needed help moving, fixing something, home repairs, or just taking care of their family, Abbott was always there to help. His yard on Murray Drive was always full of flowers, fruit, and produce that he shared with everyone. Abbott is survived by his son, Dr. Abbott J. Garvin (Alice Rybolt Garvin) of Winston Salem, NC; daughter, Sallie J. Driggers (Larry) of Hanahan, SC; grandchildren, Courtney Garvin, Erin Miller (Matt), Will Garvin (Samantha), Jacob Driggers (Isabel) and Ramey Schutz (Doug); great-grandchildren, Biakal, Rybolt, and Garvin Miller, Maddie and Jack Garvin, Willa, Abbott, and Eva Schutz, Corbin, Palmer, and Rowan Driggers. Abbott was preceded in death by his Grandson, Thomas (Tad) Driggers, and five brothers and one sister. The family would like to thank the members of Highland Park Baptist Church for the love they gave Dad over the years as he continued to decline. Services will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, October 21, 2017, at Highland Park Baptist Church. Rev. Robert (“Bob”) Nichols will be leading the service. Graveside service will follow at 3:00pm in Wagener, SC. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Highland Park Baptist Church Building Fund, 6211 Murray Drive, Hanahan, SC 29410. “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house there are many mansions; if it were not so, I would not have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know.” John 14:1-4
