Evelyn Louise Foster, the youngest child of John A. and Henrietta Drayton Foster, was born on December 7, 1933, at home in Cheshire, CT. She was educated by the Seventh Day Adventist System during her elementary to high school years. She proceeded to earn an Associate Degree at Quinnipiac College in Hampden, CT before studying nursing at Grace New Haven Hospital.
Evelyn then moved to New York City, where she returned to school and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Marymount Manhattan College. She received her Master’s Degree in Psychology from Long Island University in Brooklyn, NY and finally her Doctorate Degree in Psychology at City University in New York City.
She had many careers; she went from secretary to accountant, to RN, to Clinical Psychologist in her own private practice.
Her professional affiliations are too numerous to recall.
Evelyn was a Seventh Day Adventist for 21-years. However, after moving to South Carolina, she found a new church family and joined the United Methodist Church.
Evelyn pursued many hobbies, such as traveling, collecting Black Porcelain Dolls and arts from around the world. After retirement she learned quilting, learned and played golf and loved solving brain-games and other puzzles. She was always in pursuit of wellness, she studied and practiced several natural health and healing techniques.
Evelyn’s death was preceded by her brothers, John, Willis and Henry Edward.
She leaves a sister-in-law, Delores Foster, presently estranged husband, Gene Coakley as well as a host of nieces, nephews, a step-son and great granddaughters, Nia and Nyla.
A Graveside Service will be held on Thursday October 21, 2021 from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm at Carolina Memorial Gardens, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406. Burial to follow.
