Ernest (Ernie) M. Thompson, 86, widower of Ermaline Clayton Thompson and Sherrion Davis Thompson, entered into eternal rest on Saturday March 27, 2021 at his home in Port Richey, FL. His funeral will be held Friday April 2nd at 5:00 pm at Carolina Memorial Gardens 7113 Rivers Ave, North Charleston, SC. The family will receive friends before the funeral from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Ernie was born June 12, 1934 in Harlan County, Kentucky, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles Calloway and Nannie Lee Littrell Thompson. Ernie graduated from Bell County High School in 1951 lettering in baseball, football and track which he was most proud. After high school Ernie enlisted in the US Air Force serving from 1952 - 1957 as an Air Craft Mechanic spending time in the Korean Conflict and promoted to the rank of Sergeant. After his military service he attended Eastern Kentucky State Teachers College from 1957 – 1960, now known as Eastern Kentucky University, obtaining a teaching degree. He started teaching Industrial Arts in Charleston and soon worked part time for Charleston Plywood and Lumber. His success at Charleston Plywood and Lumber ended his teaching career that evolved into a successful full time career in sales. He then went to work for Charleston County as the Supervisor of County Services until his retirement. After retirement he spent the following years loving life with his family and friends and after Sherrion’s retirement moved to Port Richey Florida where they enjoyed the rest of their lives. Ernie was an avid outdoorsman spending many years fishing, hunting and golfing and recently joked about shooting his age on the golf course on many occasions. He enjoyed following any sport especially if it involved Kentucky or The Citadel. Ernie never met a stranger and was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was a life member of Elks Lodge 242. He is survived by his children; Lee Ann (Mark) Williams of Charleston, SC, Melinda (Paul Ironmonger) Davies of Port Richey, FL, Stephanie (Paul) Stephenson of Hanahan, SC, Jennifer (Greg) Mixson of Hollywood, SC, Sonya Deloney of North Charleston, SC, and James (Camille) Crocker of Summerville, SC ; his grandchildren Stephanie (Steven) Driggers of Hanahan, SC, Marlee (Dan) McNamee of Charleston, SC, Marlynn (William) Richardson and Hunter Mixson of Hollywood, SC, and Dylan and Jenna Crocker of Summerville, SC; his great-grandchildren Elliott and Sailor Driggers of Hanahan, SC and Clayton Richardson of Hollywood, SC. He is also survived by siblings – Barbara Goodin, Patricia Jackson, Johnny, Lois Lawson and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, wives, siblings Herbert, Nevada Ann Partin, Nora Edna Greene, Billy, Charles and Charlene Dalton.
