Doris Baxter Jeter, Age 87, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, 22 July, 2017 at the Presbyterian Community of Summerville, South Carolina surrounded by caring and loving family, friends and staff. She and her twin sister Betty were born January 14, 1930 in Montgomery, Alabama, to Jessie and Britton “B.B” Baxter. Doris came to Charleston with her family for the War effort. Doris and her twin Betty had a wonderful time growing up in North Charleston, often confounding teachers, boyfriends and the community at large. She was a graduate of North Charleston High School and Rice Business College. She married 2nd Lt. Munford “Scotty” Jeter on 29 September 1956 at Fort Bliss, Texas. She worked a variety of jobs throughout her life, often finding jobs that needed doing in the locations Scotty was assigned to. Doris was always quick to volunteer, often as a Red Cross Volunteer and was an active member of the Officers Wives Clubs in El Paso, Crailsheim, Hanau, and Athens. No matter where her family was living, she loved to prepare each year for the Christmas Bazaar knowing that proceeds would be pushed back into the local Post charities or to needing Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen and their families. After Scotty’s retirement from the Army, Doris worked as an Administrative Assistant for Physical Education Department at the Citadel. After her retirement, Doris’ love of travel and good food continued when her son and his family joined the Air Force and saw the world. Doris and Scotty, no matter the political situations occurring, visited places like Germany, Sicily, Turkey, and Italy. When Ray and Carol moved stateside, Scotty and her loved to take the train to visit the grandkids in Wyoming, Florida and DC. Doris loved to be around students and schools, often volunteering where needed…sometimes turning those volunteer opportunities into jobs. She loved supporting Ray as well as his roommates while they were at the Citadel and the Medical University of South Carolina; cooking, doing laundry, and just being a great Mom while they were away from their Moms. She loved her friends faithfully and her “lost but found again” friends at the Presbyterian Community of Summerville, going out frequently for evenings on the town. Doris was preceded in glory by her husband Scotty. She is survived by her twin sister Betty, by her son Ray and his wife Carol and by her hearts center, her grandchildren Britton Harold Jeter of Waterloo, Canada and Claire Elizabeth Jeter of Bristol, Rhode Island. Albeit small, Doris loved and touched her family deeply. The relatives and friends of Doris Jeter are invited to attend her funeral services on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at 2 PM at The Village at Summerville (The Presbyterian House) 201 West 9th North Street, Summerville, SC 29483 (843) 873-2550, graveside services will be held Thursday morning, July 27th at 10 AM at Carolina Memorial Park. Doris ask that you invest and spend time with your family and friends; celebrate enduring lifelong friendships and try volunteering in your community. Arrangements provided by CAROLINA MEMORIAL PARK, FUNERALS AND CREMATIONS, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406 (843)797-2222.
