It is with great sadness the family of Charles Ernest Morris, 85, announces his passing on May 16, 2021. Chuck was born on May 24, 1935 to Julius and Kathryn Harter Morris in Port Royal, SC. After graduating from Beaufort High School in 1953, he joined the US Navy and retired as a Chief Petty Officer after 23 years of service. Early in his Navy career, Chuck married his beloved wife, Gertrude “Trudy” Schwab Morris in 1957. They had been married 60 years at the time of her death in 2018.
Chuck served as the Chief Hospital Corpsman aboard the USS Floyd B. Parks during the Vietnam War. After retirement, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the College of Charleston in 1978 and a Master’s Degree in Education from the Citadel in 1982. He taught 5th grade at Ladson Elementary School until his second retirement after 20 years of service. Chuck enjoyed vegetable gardening, woodworking, home improvement projects, and general tinkering in his garage. He and Trudy embarked on extensive travel adventures. They traveled the world. In addition to the USA, they went on numerous extended trips in Europe, Asia, Africa, China, South America, and Russia. They enjoyed sharing their experience with family and friends.
Chuck is survived by his children, Tim (Cyndee) Morris, Jeannie (John) Wierman, and Joanie (Dave) Taylor; grandchildren, Brian (Maude) Morris, Rachel (David) Solomon, Patrick (Dominique) Morris, Kimberly Wierman, and John Michael Wierman; great grandchildren, Rylan Morris, Iona Morris, and Shay Solomon; and sister, Rose Morris Stamm. Chuck will be missed by all, especially his dedication to family and his quick sense of humor.
A private interment will be held later at Carolina Memorial Gardens, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406.
