Betty moved to Charleston in 1943. She worked in the supply department at the Naval Shipyard for several years and then as the office manager of an optical manufacturing company. She left to become a full time wife, mother and then helped start Bonnell Black Studio with her husband. She was a member of Charleston Heights Baptist Church for 63 years before it was sold in 2002. She moved her church membership to Highland Park Baptist Church. She served as a Sunday school teacher and on multiple committees over her lifetime.
Betty is survived by her daughters Bonnie Wright and Sandra Delk (James); her grandchildren Cindy Harmon, David Wright (Kimberly), Taylor Sutton (Andrew), and Evan Wright (Evie); her great granddaughter Chloe Wright; and her brother-in-law Donald E. Black.
Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Bonnell E. Black; her 3 brothers, 3 sisters, and her grandson Michael Harmon.
A visitation will be held for Betty on Friday, April 15, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Carolina Memorial Funeral home 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, South Carolina 29406, with a chapel memorial service to follow at 11:00. Afterwards there will be a burial service at Live Oak Memorial Gardens 3093 Ashley River Road, Charleston, South Carolina 29414.
