Aicha Frigi Smith, 82, of Hanahan, SC, passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2024, in Manassas, Virginia. Aicha was born on August 29, 1942, in Kenitra, Morocco, the daughter of the late Zahara (Mohmed) Frigi and Faraji Frigi. Aicha was raised by her aunt and uncle after the early loss of her parents. She was a bright and ambitious young girl who excelled in school, particularly in math, and dreamed of becoming a teacher.
Aicha's life took a significant turn when she met and fell in love with Richard, a Navy sailor from South Carolina, while working at the post office. Their love story brought her to the United States, where they built a life together in Brunswick, Georgia, Charleston, South Carolina, and Norfolk and Fairfax, Virginia.
Determined and hardworking, Aicha pursued further education, earning her cosmetology license and proudly studied to earn her U.S. citizenship.
Aicha was a woman of many talents and interests. She was fluent in Arabic, French, Spanish and English and loved cooking, crocheting, gardening, knitting, painting, shopping, swimming (despite her fear of water), and traveling.
Aicha's legacy is one of love, resilience, and a zest for life. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.
Aicha was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Richard A. Smith. Aicha is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Adam) Delamater and two grandchildren, Christopher and Charlotte. Two brother-in-laws Angus Smith Jr. and Timothy (Carol) Smith. Two sister-in-laws Jean Smith and Sandra (Ken) Hickman.
A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, December 9, 2024, at 1:00pm at Carolina Memorial Gardens, 7113 Rivers Avenue, Charleston, SC 29406.
