Robert Garland Followwill

Robert Garland “Bob” Followwill passed away peacefully and surrounded by loved ones at his home on the evening of August 6, 2021. Bob was born on January 28, 1930 to Oscar and Ruth Followwill in Norman, Oklahoma.

Bob was the last member to pass away of the children of Ruth and Oscar, a former Norman police officer. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Ruth Lou Ellen, Major Frances, Rebecca Juanita, Joseph Arthur, Naomi Gloria, Nancy Anne, Emma Sue, and Wynona Catherine, half brothers, Eugene Debs and Oscar Kenneth. He also was preceded in death by his son, Robert Michael Followwill and wives, Novaline Hackney Followwill and Nancy Cavendish Folllowwill. Bob is survived by wife, Nadine, daughter, Suzanne, granddaughter, Chloé and numerous family members and friends.

Bob attended Jefferson Elementary and graduated from Norman High School in 1948. It was there he met Nadine Kidd, daughter of Midway Grocery owner, Lee Kidd. They were married in February of 1950 in a ceremony officiated by his father who was also a minister as well as a police officer. Their marriage began their music ministry. Bob had a natural and charismatic talent as a music worship leader and Nadine as an extraordinary pianist. Their joint calling began at the church, which is presently known as Crosspointe Church, where they are also charter members. For almost thirty years, Bob directed choirs and built music programs in churches and youth camps all over Oklahoma and Arkansas. He even had the privilege of leading music for one of the annual Free Will Baptist conventions.

Bob was especially proud of his military service. He was active duty Air Force at the time of the Korean War, serving for four years at home and abroad. He was honorably discharged after attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.

After his music career, Bob worked for the Oklahoma Department of Corrections, where he channeled his superior organizational and food preparation skills as Food Superintendent. Bob also made use of these skills in service to Crosspointe Church, where he assisted with the design of the renovated kitchen and helped establish the Hospitality Committee, which efficiently serves church fellowship dinners and lunches for funerals held at Crosspointe.

Thanks to his long, multi-faceted career and varied talents, Bob leaves behind many colleagues and friends who remember him fondly in addition to his large extended family.
