Richard Lee Knapp went to be with the Lord on June 5th. 2024. He passed quietly and peacefully while at his home in Norman, OK., after fighting a long term battle with cancer. Richard was born June 9th, 1950, in Akron, Ohio to George and Ruth Knapp. Richard was 73 yrs of age, and loved his family and friends, and neighbors. Richard was married to Paula Akers of Norman, OK on March 4th, 1995.Richard and Paula were happily married for 29 years.
Richard was preceded in death by his sister Cheryl Kent, Brother Ronald Knapp, Sister Karen Killingsworth, Mother Ruth Dunn, and Step-Mother Shirley Knapp.
Richard is survived by his Father George Knapp, his wife Paula Knapp, his daughter Dusty Hendon, his Step-Daughter Shannon Snowdon and spouse Michael, Step-Daughter Kristin Akers-Burress, His Sisters, Debbie Cook and spouse Don, Sister Linda Leffler and Sister Kathy Preaver and spouse Mitch, Step-Brother Guindol Basinger, and spouse Mary, Step-Brother Monte Basinger and spouse Sandy, his Step-Sister Kelly Cox, his Grandchildren Baylee McCurdy, Taylor Snowdon his wife Karlee, Alyssa Hendon, Kiley Snowdon, Hope Burress, Cole Snowdon, Sunny Burress, Garrett Hendon, Ashlyn Hendon, and two Great Grandsons Beckham Snowdon and Boston Snowdon.
Richard was a helicopter door gunner in the US Army, 25th Inf. Div., in Vietnam from 1969-1971. Later, Richard was employed with the USPS for 30 yrs. as a Postal Clerk up until his retirement. He was an avid provider, loved maintaining his yard and home so much that all the neighbors complimented him on having the best yard. Loved to travel and vacation, but his new interest and passion was golf. He truly loved the game and making new acquaintances on the golf course.
The last two years of Richard's life became a challenge in battling cancer. He fought this dreadful disease with all his might. During this time Richard accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. He trusted his Lord with his life and was at peace with what was to come. Richard will be remembered for his love of Family, golf, for his courageous hard-fought battle with cancer, and for his true love of his country and the Patriot he was. Richard will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A celebration of life for Richard will be held Thursday, June 13, 2024 at 10:00 AM at Primrose Funeral Service, 1109 North Porter Ave, Norman, OK 73071.
