It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michele Christina Fernandez, 58, on November 18, 2024, in Norman, Oklahoma. Born in Madras, India, on July 24, 1966, Michele was the beloved daughter of Eric Thomas Fernandez and Rosemarie “Marie” Fernandez.
In 1972, Michele’s family made the journey to Melbourne, Australia, where she would go on to build lasting bonds with an extended family that she cherished deeply. She graduated from Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College in Bentleigh, Australia, and pursued a career as a Nurse Technician, specializing in the care of Alzheimer's and Dementia patients. Michele was an avid lover of animals, both wildlife and domestic pets. She was a community volunteer for several non-profit wildlife conservation and animal rescue organizations.
In 2011, Michele moved to Norman, Oklahoma, where she joined her best friend and life partner, Brenda Snodgrass. Michele found joy in the quiet moments. She was always listening to her favorite music which included virtually every genre imaginable. While Elvis was absolutely the King, she also loved everything from Alternative to Pop and Country. She found great joy in cooking her favorite recipes for family and friends. And they loved eating her food, which was always made with love for each and every one. She loved to laugh & be surrounded with laughter. Her most tranquil moments were those spent sitting on her deck, watching her cats explore the back yard as she admired the beautiful plants and sunflower garden that she had nurtured from the soil. Watching the sun set as the day turn to twilight always brought her peace of mind.
Michele had a deep love for her family, often reminiscing about times spent with her parents, aunties, uncles, brother and many cousins, their children and grandchildren. The most special place in her heart was filled with great love, gratitude, and pride for her brother Earle and niece Britney, both of Melbourne, Australia.
Michele was preceded in death by her parents, Eric and Marie Fernandez, as well as her nephew Aaron Fernandez. She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be cherished by her partner, Brenda Snodgrass; her brother, Earle Fernandez; her niece, Britney Fernandez; two aunties; many cousins; countless extended family members, and dear friends, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Michele will forever be remembered for her sensitive spirit, her protective nature, and the wisdom she shared with those who knew her best. Her kindness and generosity left an indelible mark on all who were lucky enough to call her family and friend.
A graveside service will be held in Michele’s honor on Friday, November 22, 2024, at 2:00 PM at IOOF Cemetery, 1913 N Porter Ave, Norman, OK 73069.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in Michele’s memory be made to an animal conservation or rescue organization of your choice, causes that were close to her heart.
