Delores Jean Ross of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, went home to Jesus on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at the age of 86. Granny passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her family, friends, and loyal dog, Sassy. Jean was born in Elk City, Oklahoma to Comer and Jessie Taylor on January 18, 1933. Jean and her sister Reta grew up in Carter, Oklahoma. It was in Carter where she met the love of her life, Alvie Ross. The two wed on December 23, 1951, and had 2 children, Robert Bruce Ross and Ginger Diane Ross. Jean and Alvie shared just days shy, 50 years of marriage before Alvie was called home to the Lord on December 15, 2001.
Jean was known to many as Granny, even if you were not her grandchild. When she’d introduce herself, following her name, she’d say, “I’m Granny”. You were made to feel welcome and she took a genuine interest in you immediately.
Granny accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior when she was a young girl. She grew up in church, where she was active her whole life. Jean joined Highland Baptist Church of Moore in April 2003 and served God in various ways over the years through her church home, including sewing costumes for children, making Christmas wreaths, volunteering in Vacation Bible School, community outreach, and driving around for years picking up her friends of senior ladies for Sunday School and church until her eyesight would no longer allow. More importantly, Jean was a prayer warrior.
One could come to Granny with anything and if she said she would pray for you, she meant it. They weren’t empty words. She would not only pray for you, but also tell you over and over “all you can do is give it to God”. Even though Jean didn’t have an instant solution to fix your problem in a worldly sense, she knew that ultimately God was the source we should go to in our time of need. She encouraged us to turn our eyes upon Jesus.
Jean was a straight shooter; she was never one to mince words. If she felt like someone was being treated unfairly or she saw one of her children, grandchildren or others whom she loved, out of line, you better believe she was going to talk to you about it. She did this because she cared. One always knew where they stood with Granny. You can rest assured she was talking God’s ear off too, praying for answers and seeking His face.
When Jean finally heard those words from the King of Kings on Thursday, December 12, 2019 at 12:17AM, “Well done, good and faithful servant;”, she was reunited for eternity with her husband, Alvie - “Pa Pa”; daughter, Ginger - “Nana”; sister, Reta; brother-in-law, Archie; niece, Casey; parents, Comer and Jessie Taylor - “Pops” and “Granny Grunt”; grandparents, Robert and Lillie Taylor; grandparents, Thomas and Helena Rivers Jackson, and so many more.
So for now, until God calls us home, no words can express how much you will be missed and this empty void will not be filled. You set the bar high to share a legacy to pass the baton down to next generations just like your parents, grandparents, great grandparents and so on did for you with your faith in Jesus Christ. May we be challenged and not disappoint.
Love you always and forever,

There will not be a viewing or visitation hours at the funeral home. Granny didn’t want to do any of that.
Our family greatly appreciates the calls, messages, and outpour of love during this difficult season in our lives.
