His working career began in earnest in 1997 when he began working for Gordon’s Heating & Air in Norman. Gordon’s was purchased by Service Experts and Jason went on to work for them for 20 years, leaving that company as a general manager.
Working in the service industry was a natural fit, as Jason had a passion for serving people in his life. During his time with Service Experts, he found his greatest working joy as a trainer. He truly loved training other people, and later did so for both the Love’s and the Costco corporations. He was working for the State of Oklahoma as a Driver’s License Examiner in South Oklahoma City at Service Oklahoma at the time of his death.
Jason was a bright shining light for many people and will be remembered for his beaming smile, the best hugs, and great laugh. Jason loved all things related to music, singing, dancing, musicals, and particularly being a member of the choir and handbell ensemble at St. Stephen’s UMC in Norman. He loved St. Stephen’s, chaperoning the youth mission trip the week prior to his death, serving the homeless, rafting, and hiking in the beautiful nature of Colorado Jason served on the Reconciling Ministries Board for St. Stephen’s and was highly active PFLAG Board member as a past President. On the day of his passing, he sang a beautiful duet at both services with one of his favorite church friends and indeed made a joyful noise unto the Lord.
To know Jason was to love him. Those left to cherish his precious memory include his parents, Dave & Trish Martin of Mustang, OK; his brother Justin and wife Kim Martin of Lawton, Ok; his favorite core cousins, Ta Rena Furr as well as her husband Shawn, of Lexington, OK; Wendy Thomas and husband Mike Hughes of Blanchard, Oklahoma; Tracy Martin and husband Kim Moore of Paducah, Texas; Tony Brakefield and wife Kim of Houston, Texas; Darlene Byrd of Duncan, Oklahoma; and Christopher Martin of El Reno, Oklahoma, and many other beloved relatives.
