Ethel was born on May 11, 1934, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Wayne Preston Smith and Marietta Dawson Smith. She graduated from high school in Memphis before moving to Oklahoma in 1952, where she took courses at the University of Oklahoma.
On August 30, 1958, Ethel married the love of her life, William Linton Clouston, whom she met while William was serving in the Air Force and Ethel worked on the base. Together, they shared nearly 67 years of love and devotion before William’s passing on February 10, 2025. They were blessed with three wonderful children: Carol, Steven, and Robert.
Ethel was deeply dedicated to her family, cherishing her roles as a wife, mother, and grandmother. When doctors gave Steven only two years to live, Ethel's unwavering love and tireless care helped him live a fulfilling 44 years.
In her spare time, Ethel enjoyed volunteering, caring for others, offering her opinions, watching The Young and the Restless, playing the piano, spending time with her grandchildren, and singing hymns with family and friends at reunions. A longtime member of the First Christian Church, Ethel served in various capacities throughout the years.
Ethel is preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Linton Clouston; her son, Steven Clouston; her parents, Wayne and Marietta Smith; and her brother, Wayne P. Smith Jr.
She is survived by her children, Carol Proctor and husband David of Norman, Oklahoma, and Robert Clouston of Norman, Oklahoma; her grandchildren, David Proctor and wife Allie, Alyssa Piraino and husband Joe, and Emma Clouston; her great-grandchildren, Landry Piraino, Tripp Proctor, Teddy Proctor, and soon-to-be-born Kyler Dawson Piraino; and her special niece, Suzanne Teringo.
