Russell “Buddy” Rogers, 86 passed away May 2, 2016. He was born in Waynesboro VA and moved to Norfolk, VA in 1955 with his wife Mary and their 6 children.
Buddy served proudly as a Merchant Marine during World War II, was a Master Brick Mason and received a 50 year recognition pin from the Brick Mason’s Union. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Buddy received many award plaques and fishing citations. He was placed in the Virginia Wildlife magazine for the largest trophy buck kill for 1959 and was also the Virginia State Champion. Buddy was also one of the founding members of the Nottoway Hunt Club in Southampton VA. Buddy accepted the Lord as his savior along with his daughter, Doris and son in law on his youngest great grandsons 1st birthday.
Buddy was predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years Mary and son, Ronnie Rogers.
He is survived by his 4 sons; Pete, Donnie, Jeff and Joe Rogers, daughter; Doris Mathis, eight grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 6, 2016 at 1 PM at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA. The visitation will be one hour before the service. Please visit www.woodlawngroup.com to leave a message of comfort for the family.
