Harvey was born on November 21, 1929, in Enola, PA to John Andrew and Mabel Viola Sourbeer. He had 11 brothers and sisters, which helped cultivate his values of hard work, integrity, and compassion.
Throughout his life, Harvey was known for his unwavering dedication to his family. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather of an incredible 94 years of life.
Harvey was preceded in death by his late wife, Johanna T. Sourbeer, his wife of 67 years.
He is survived by his sister, Shirley Ash of Camp Hill, PA; his son Douglas Sourbeer (Kit), of Georgetown, TX and daughter Doris Jackson (Jerry) of Point Harbor, NC; grandchildren Johanna Lasser (Jimm), Jamie Mann (Shane), Christine Peters, Shannon Peters, and nine great-grandchildren Wolf and Willhelmina Lasser, Madisyn, Caleb, and Cason Mann, Nevaeh Matthews and Sebastian Lewis, Colby and Channon Jennings.
Harvey professionally enjoyed a successful career in the United States Navy for 23 years and retired from the Special Service (MWR) after 20 years. He approached his work with diligence and professionalism.
Harvey was known for his kind heart, gentle demeanor, and willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His generosity knew no bounds, and his legacy of kindness will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
In his leisure time, Harvey enjoyed woodworking, football, and gardening. Whether making toy boxes for his grandchildren, cheering on the Steelers, or planting tomato plants, he found solace and contentment in these pursuits.
Harvey leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and integrity that will be carried on by those he touched. He was steadfast, never complaining, and would freely give his time to help others. He was a dependable man, a steady hand on the tiller. While we mourn his loss deeply, we take comfort in the memories we shared and the profound impact he had on our lives.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate the life of Harvey will be held at 2pm, Friday, February 16, 2024 at Woodlawn Funeral Home. A visitation will be conducted from 5-7pm, Thursday, February 15, 2024 in the Hall of Honor at Woodlawn Funeral Home. Family and friends are invited to attend and pay their respects. Harvey L. Sourbeer will be dearly missed but never forgotten. May his soul rest in peace.
