Norfolk, Virginia Otherwise known as Dan or Danny to friends, Daniel W. Larson, Jr., 74 years of age, of Norfolk, Virginia, passed away on Friday, September 30th, 2016 at his home. Born in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and was the son of the late Daniel Webster and Coral Page Larson. Dan is survived by his first wife Judy Darlene Larson, daughter Tanya Ann Larson-Solimeo; grandchildren Ryan V. Solimeo and Marisa R. Solimeo, Nephews Michael Larson, Glenn Larson, Shawn Larson and Scott Larson; Nieces Page Larson and Wendy Larson and special Aunts including Sheila Larson and Evelyn Larson. Danny was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to many. Danny was most proud to be the youngest Pearl Harbor Survivor at a mere 23 days old. He served in the Army National Guard receiving an Honorable discharge from July 1963-July 1969. His most passionate career began in 1967 when he started cutting hair in the Roosevelt Barber Shop off Little Creek Road in Norfolk, Virginia. Then he landed his second opportunity to cut the hair of Hampton Roads Finest men : United States Navy Enlisted located in the Navy Exchange Barber Shop, at the Norfolk Naval Air Station in Norfolk, Virginia. His Barbershop Legacy began soon after when he became an entrepreneur opening up three local barber shops beginning with the first located in Wards Corner, Norfolk, VA; the second venture opened off Little Creek Road and the most remembered location was his last-proudly known as Bayview Barber Shop located in Ocean View, Norfolk, VA. He also was a part of the Crash and Rescue Team on the Norfolk Naval Base and served as a firefighter from April 1974 to March 1994. Lastly, his love and respect for the Military inspired him to serve in the United States Air Force Reserves , retiring in January 1986 with an honorable discharge as a Chief Master Sergeant “E—9”. Funeral services for (Dan) Danny will be at Saint John’s United Methodist Church in Norfolk, Virginia on Saturday, October 8th from 11 am-12 noon. Reception inside the church will follow after; from 12 noon-1:00pm. Danny will be laid to rest at the Woodlawn Funeral Home and Memorial Garden in Norfolk, Virginia 23502; located in the Avenue of Flags Veteran’s Garden (map section).
