Charles Ronald Mathis

Charles R. Mathis passed away on August 16, 2024 at the age of 82. He is survived by his daughters;Beth Simons and husband Ken; Jamie Helvie and husband Ray and three grandchildren, Noah & Gus Simons and Emma Helvie. Also left to cherish his memory is his sister Trisha Kelly and husband Tom; his brother Mike Mathis, nephew Matt Kelly and wife Diana, and other nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife of 45 years, Deborah; brother, Jerry Mathis; and parents, Orlando & Sara Mathis. Ronnie retired from the I.L.A., local 1624, in 2002 where he worked as a checker and served as president of his local for several years. Interests throughout his life included shooting pool, playing golf and coaching his daughters’ softball teams. Ronnie enjoyed talking with others; learning about their lives and sharing about his many experiences which were certainly entertaining. He was a loving father and husband and is missed by those who knew and loved him. Thank you to the staff at The Waterford in Virginia Beach who assisted in his care over recent months.
