Will served in the Korean War and after being wounded at Heartbreak Ridge, requested a return from the hospital to the battlefield. He received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart as well as other medals of honor for service to the country he loved. Will was a man of duty…to God, to his country, and to his beloved family and many friends. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, a past president of the Korean War Association, and a member of the Sacred Heart Church Yard Boys.
Will Johnson was a problem solver and fixer. He was generous and warm hearted. He was a joke-teller and found humor in daily life. He was an artist and retired from Shell in 1989 after 21 years of service. He was a sky diver at 85. He was a Harley rider at 18 and 87. He was a tank builder for Chicago Bridge and Iron. He was a listener, an avid reader, Sudoku puzzler, a Saints fan, and a “Crown” man.
He was a family man, loving his wife Marie and daughters, Earlene and Donna without limitation. They brought him much joy and then expanded his family with spouses and children. He adored them all. He found love again late in life when he met Verna Weaver. She joined him in fun adventures and travel. Their favorite past time was “making a pass” at the casino. Will leaves a hole in the hearts of his extended family, community, and many friends.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff and nurses at SummerHouse Ashton Manor for their wonderful care and love towards Willie during his time there.
