He was born August 8, 1931 in Edgard, Louisiana to parents Odell and Agnes Dufresne Barre. He graduated from Hahnville High School in the Class of 1949. While attending Hahnville High, he played on their original football team as #31, then later played for the Perkinston Junior College football team. Bat was a member of the LSU Marching Band and served as a sergeant in the United States Marine Corps.
Bat is survived by his loving wife of nearly 66 years, Shirley Mae Troxler Barre. He was the loving father to Shirlyn Fahrig (Jonathan), Kyle Barre (Lena), Darren Barre (Angela), and Wendy Colomb (Robert, Sr.). He was the devoted grandfather to Brooke Grasperge (Britton), Kali Davis (George), Cameron Fahrig (Nicole), Alex Barre (Rachel), Amye Barre, Paige Barre, Lucy Barre, Allyson “Sunshine” Colomb, Caroline Colomb, and Robert Colomb, Jr. Bat was also the proud great-grandfather to Talon Grasperge, Olivia Grasperge, Addison Jourdain, Ryanne “Petunia” Davis, Magnolia Barre, and Elijah Barre. He is also survived by his sisters Barbara “Babs” Mollere and Veronica “Dawn” Tisdale, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Odell and Agnes Dufresne Barre, as well as his sister Beverly “Betsy” Vial.
Bat was an avid fan of any sports or activities that his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren participated in. Nothing brought him more joy than to watch his grandchildren and great-grandchildren play in his fully restored 1931 Ford Model A. His annual Good Friday Crawfish Boil will continue to produce happy memories for family and friends.
Visitation will be held Monday, September 19, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. followed by a funeral mass starting at 11:00 a.m., all at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church—1 Rectory Ln. Hahnville, LA. Burial will take place at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Cemetery on River Rd. in Taft, LA following the funeral mass.
