Andre "A.J." Joseph Abadie, Jr.

Andre Joseph “A.J.” Abadie, Jr., was born on July 24, 1928 and passed away peacefully on July 9, 2024 at the age of 95. He was a native of Vacherie and a resident of Thibodaux. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Elsie Hymel Abadie, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage. He is survived by their four children Paul Abadie (Gretal), Jeanne Bienvenu (David), Angela Graugnard (Brian), and Gay Cain; seven grandchildren Amber A. Bourgeois (Michael), Dr. Emily Bienvenu, Stephanie B. Kleinpeter (Michael), Dr. Erin G. Rushing (Walter), Aimee G. Long (Andy), Michael Graugnard (Aleksandra), and Eli Cain; and six precious great-grandchildren, Charlie Bourgeois, Anna Claire and Mikie Kleinpeter, Bennet and Graham Rushing, and Poppy Graugnard.

A.J. is also preceded in death by his parents, Andre Abadie Sr. and Eloise Waguespack Abadie; five brothers, Donald (Genevieve), Daniel, Russel, Frank and Dudley Abadie; and four sisters, Thelma Zeringue (Noel), Eloise Abadie, Marie Peyton (Bill), and Bernadette Roussel (Harry).

A.J. was a devoted Catholic who shared his faith with friends and family who will miss him dearly. His love for life, people, and God made a lasting, positive impact on all who knew him.

The family would like to thank the staff of St. Joseph Manor as well as Haydel Hospice for their loving care.

Visitation will be held Monday, July 15, 2024, at St. Philip's Catholic Church in Vacherie from 9 AM until the time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM. Interment to follow at St. Philip's Mausoleum in Vacherie.
