Niantic-Eugene Franklin Goss, Sr 78 years old, surrounded by his family, peacefully left this earth to be with his Savior, Tuesday July 20, 2010 at 3:19pm at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after an illness. Eugene (Gene) was born on May 18, 1932 in Old Lyme were he lived most of his life survived by his parents the late Wilbur Goss, Sr. and Ellen Fratus, Gene lived in Niantic with his loving wife of 42 years Renee Goss, had seven children daughter Marilyn G. Crowley and husband Richard of Saybrook, son Eugene F. Goss, Jr and wife Cathy of ST Cloud, Florida, daughter Kimberly G. Harris and husband Roger of Deep River, predeceased son Mark J. Goss of Essex, daughter Johnna G. Otrin of Westbrook, son Christopher C. Goss, Sr and wife Jolie of Middletown and son Michael J. Goss of Niantic. Mr. Goss had 17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 4 great great-grandchildren. Eugene also survived by sister Helen Way of Groton, brother George Goss of Groton, sister Marlene DeGray of Niantic, and brother Wendell Goss, Sr of Westbrook, predeceased by brothers Wilbur Goss, Jr of Old Lyme, Harold Goss, Lyme, sisters Betty Rix of Moosup, and Connie Hebert of Niantic, and brother John Goss of Old Lyme.
Gene was a skilled mason by trade and was extremely talented in his craft. He enjoyed spending time with his very large family especially watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren spend countless hours swimming in the family pool. He also enjoyed gardening, sailing and really anything he could fix or create. He had a great sense of humor and was know for playing practical jokes even right up until the end. We will all miss him very much! We love you Gene, Dad and Grandpa!
Calling hours will be held Friday, July 23, 2010 at Mr. Goss’s home at 40 Riverview Road, Niantic at 5:00 p.m. and a Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 24, 2010 11 a.m., at the Flanders Baptist Church, reception to follow.
