East Lyme – Anna Louise Nelson Gordon passed away gently and peacefully October 16, 2024, at the age of 97, in the comfort of her home and surrounded by her daughters. Anna was born August 25, 1927 in New London CT. Anna was the oldest of four children born to Carl and Anna Nelson of East Lyme.
As a first-generation American, Anna was deeply proud of her Swedish heritage, continuing many of the traditional Swedish customs at family gatherings and holidays throughout her life. Anna attended Flanders Elementary School and was a 1945 Chapman Tech Graduate, graduating at the top of her class. Anna worked as a bookkeeper for several local businesses. Anna and her husband Joe delivered Meals on Wheels for many years. Anna also worked for 20+ years as a volunteer at the East Lyme Senior Center as a dish washer and meal prepper. Anna and her husband Joseph were also charter members of Christ Lutheran Church in Niantic CT. Anna also survived cervical, uterine and breast cancer. She was a fighter.
Anna was predeceased by her husband Joseph, her parents, her Sister Ruth Pflomm ( just a month ago ) and her brother Carl Nilsson. Anna is survived by her daughters Kathy Martin ( Trent ) of Elgin IL, Lynne McCue ( Dave ) of North Stonington CT, Carol Gordon of Batavia IL and Judy Teel ( Ken ) of Salem CT. Her four grandchildren, Karolyn Tincher ( Phil ) of Geneva IL, Kirsten Crawford ( David ) of Elgin IL, Kyle McCue ( Sarah ) of Charlestown RI and Craig McCue of North Stonington CT. Four Great-Grandchildren, Harrison and Hudson Tincher of Geneva IL and Jack and Emma Crawford of Elgin IL. Also, sister Signe Stuart of Santa Fe NM. She is also survived by her sister in-laws, Rose Hess of Groton CT, Jackie Fraser of Waterford CT, cousins and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank her caregivers over the past couple of years, Doris, Grace and Jessie, for providing compassionate care for our mom. Also, a big thank you to her nephew Rob Pflomm and her cousin Bruce Nelson, who were always there to help mom and her sister Ruth with whatever they needed.
Over the last couple of years when we would get mom to bed, she would put a hand around our neck and say “ Love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck”, then I Love You as we walked out the door.
Calling hours will be from 5pm – 7pm Friday October 25, 2024 at Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Lake Avenue Niantic CT. Funeral will be held at 11am Saturday October 26, at Christ Lutheran Church, 24 Society Road, Niantic, with burial to follow at East Lyme Cemetery.
