With heavy hearts we announce Roy’s passing on May 25, 2021 at the age of 96 at Chippawa Creek at Bella Care Residence. Predeceased by his dear wife Frances (1997) and survived by his loving companion Rosemarie Groulx. Roy was an amazing father to his son Guy (Sulynne) of Sneads Ferry, NC and his daughter Gail (Sam Barnes) of Chippawa. He is survived by his grandchildren Kristin (Lee Cuthbert), Chippawa; Erin (Bryan Todd), Stevensville; Dan Kennedy, Matthew (Debbie) Kennedy and Alex Kennedy all of Massachusetts. He is also survived by nine great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He outlived most of his contemporaries but will still be remembered fondly by many.
Roy lived a long and happy life. His early years were spent at “The Halfway” on his parent’s farm (Roy A. (1966) & Minnie (1980)) with his sister Edna (1999, Bill Bell 1994). He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy during WW2. He had a varied working career from grinding knives at Oneida, selling Insurance for Prudential to being an Insurance Adjuster for Vicary Claims, Allstate Insurance and Morden & Helwig, to name a few. In his ‘spare’ time he built and renovated several homes and cottages. He was an avid boater, snowmobiler, golfer and snowbird. He truly loved life and enjoyed taking on new challenges and adventures.
One of his favourite sayings was “If a job is once begun, never leave it till it’s done, be the labour great or small, do it well or not at all”. Rest in peace Dad, your job is done and you did it well!
Thank you to the kind and capable staff at Bella for your dedicated and loving care.
Cremation has taken place, private internment will take place at a later date at Stamford Presbyterian Church.
