It is with great sadness and sorrow that the family of John (Jack) William Russell announce his passing on February 12, 2019 at St Catharines General Hospital. Jack, 85 years old, was the dear husband of Patricia (Pat) Russell of Linhaven Home, St Catharines. He will be lovingly remembered by his children Beverley (David) of BC, John (Jen) of Barrie, Glen of Stratford, and by his grandchildren Allison (Jan), Rob, and Rachael. Jack was the eldest brother of the late Joan Harding (Cyril) of Mt. Hope, Edith (Pat) of Cochrane, Margaret (Neil) of Wainfleet, David (the late Elaine) of Mt. Hope, Dianne (John) of BC, and Audrey of Brantford and will be sadly missed. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews as well as long-time friends.
Jack was born in Niagara Falls. His parents were William and Olive Russell. Later, he resided with his wife and children in Toronto, Owen Sound, Aurora, St Catharines and Niagara Falls. After his graduation in 1957 from the Niagara Parks School of Horticulture, his career with the Ministry of Transportation provided him the opportunity to travel throughout the province of Ontario teaching, supervising and ensuring the beauty and maintenance of our roadsides until his retirement in 1989. He has struggled in the past few years but his faith and his family have provided comfort and support during his stay at Linhaven. The Toronto Maple Leafs and Blue Jays have given him much enjoyment/despair over the years and his detailed stories and memories of the past have kept the family entertained and well-informed!
Jack’s family would like to thanks the PSWs, Nurses and Doctors who cared and supported Jack during his time at Linhaven Care Home and St. Catharines General Hospital. Your care and dedication will always be remembered.
As per Jack’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at HETHERINGTON & DEANS FUNERAL CHAPEL, 5176 Victoria Avenue, Niagara Falls on Saturday March 9th, 2019 at 11:00am with visitation held one hour prior. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Alumni Association of the NPC school of Horticulture Foundation.
