Julia (Judy) Ann Scales, 88 years old, of Paulinskill Lake, passed away peacefully Monday, March 28, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. Julia was born to Stella (Dziatkowski) and Joseph Ernst in East Orange, NJ on October 11, 1933.
Julia married James (Jim) Scales on May 1, 1954 at Holy Name Church in East Orange, NJ. They moved to Sussex County in 1960 where Jim built their home and they raised their family.
In her early years before marriage, Julia worked for Thomas Edison.
After marrying Jim, she became a mother and loved watching her family grow. Julia wrote a column for the Blairstown Press, about the happenings at Paulinskill Lake (Paulinskill Patter). Julia was also the Secretary to the Athletic Director at Kittatinny Regional High School. She was involved with 4H, her lake community, and The Parish of Our Lady of Mount Carmel R.C. Church in Swartswood.
Julia is predeceased by her husband Jim of 64 years. She is survived by her children, Barbara Phillips, James Scales, Jr.(Brenda), Janice Grzesik (Rich), Laura McDonnell (Andy), and Julia Scales; her six grandchildren Jeri, Dustin (Joanne), Richie Paul (Colleen), Mary (David), Kelly and Katie; and eight great grandchildren Makayla, Austin, Zoe, Abby, Paul, Annie, Autumn and Teagan.
A celebration of Julia’s life and memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel R.C. Church (203 Swartswood Rd), on Wednesday, April 6th at 10:30am. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in the memory of Julia Ann Scales to Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice at 99 Sparta Avenue, Newton, NJ 07860.
