Joyce was born in Phillipsburg, New Jersey, on May 4, 1953 to the late Fred and Constance (Maring) Parr. In 1995, Joyce came to SCARC as a resident of their Supervised Apartments Program and SLP program. Joyce moved to SCARC’s Fredon group home in 2008 and then resided with the Warren County Arc for a year until her return to SCARC’s Stillwater group home in 2010. Joyce spent the last twelve years at the Stillwater group home.
Joyce worked at the McDonald’s in Newton for nearly 20 years, and proudly received an award for her hard work there. She was also involved in many day programs including Harvest Home Foods, Harvest Home Clothing, Explorers, Senior Center, and Dykstra Center. In 2017, Joyce was recognized as SCARC’s Senior of the Year.
Joyce was a fierce advocate for herself. She enjoyed community activities with a one-on-one staff or friend, and cherished time spent with her family. Joyce enjoyed cooking, crocheting, listening to music, watch old TV shows, and was particularly fond of word searches. Joyce worked hard at maintaining her independence with daily living skills.
Joyce is predeceased by her parents Fred and Constance (Maring) Parr, and her sister Joan Herder. Joyce is survived by her 3 sisters Gloria (Parr) Parichuk (husband Dale), Susan Parr, and Jean Parr; her 2 brothers Allen and Albert Parr; 6 nephews and 1 niece; a grand-niece and grand-nephew; and her best friend, Sharon. Joyce leaves behind many friends and loved ones who will miss her greatly.
A visitation for Joyce will be held on Friday, January 6, 2023 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Smith McCracken Funeral Home, followed by interment at Moravian Cemetery in Warren County.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Joyce’s memory to SCARC Guardianship Services, Inc., 11 US Route 206, Suite 100, Augusta, NJ 07822.
