Joseph, affectionately known as Jay, was born in Glendale, California on December 29th, 1959 to Robert and Joan (Chase) Fredericks. He remained in Glendale until the age of 5 before moving to Sussex County, where he became a lifelong resident.
Jay graduated from Kittatinny Regional High School in 1978. Jay enjoyed coaching the football and baseball Stillwater and Fredon Little League teams. As an avid hunter and fisher, Jay was a member of the Stillwater Gun Club and the Paradise Fishing Club. He enjoyed fishing trips with friends at the Tanaku Lodge in Alaska.
Jay was well known for his huge 4th of July parties and his famous Pig Roasts on Stillwater Day. He was skilled at cooking and smoking meats and fish for all friends and family to enjoy.
Jay proudly owned and operated JRF Tire in Franklin, NJ and JRF Bandag in Newton, NJ for over 30 years. Above all, Jay loved spending time with his family, whether it was on trips to Disney or during daily talks and FaceTime with his beloved grandchildren.
Jay is predeceased by his son, L. J. Fredericks, and his father, Robert Fredericks. Jay is survived by his mother, Joan Fredericks of Stillwater, NJ; daughters, Kimberly Fredericks of Stillwater, NJ and Kristina Fredericks of Savannah, GA; son, Matthew Fredericks of Stillwater, NJ; brother, Clark Fredericks of Stillwater, NJ; sister, Holly Fredericks of Tewksbury, NJ; former wife, Carol Fredericks of Savannah, GA; and 2 granddaughters, Willow and Bayla.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Smith McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St, Newton, NJ 07860.
