Carol was born in England to the late William Christopher Medcalfe and Liselotte Magdalene (nee Löffler) Medcalfe. She grew up with her brother and sister and joined British Airways in her early twenties working as a ground stewardess. She left for Pan Am and moved to the US spending her career as a Purser and continuing to travel the world. She was fascinated by other cultures and enjoyed meeting people, Hong Kong being the favorite amongst all her travels.
Carol took great pride in her home country of England and enjoyed staying current on the Royal Family. She was an avid animal lover who was especially fond of dogs and hummingbirds.
In addition to her parents, Carol was also predeceased by her sister, Gillian Leslie Medcalfe, her yorkies, and her beloved dog, Lily. She is survived by her husband, Louis R. Ratti; her stepson, Lou Ratti; her stepdaughter, Suzanne Ratti and husband, Bryan Van Lenten; her grandchildren, Laurence and Bryson; her brother, Kit Medcalfe and wife, Sandra; her nieces and nephews, Katie, Max, James, and Lauren; and two grandnieces, Sophie and Ada whom she adored sharing pictures and stories about. She also leaves behind her best friend, Nancy Sonderfan; and her dachshund, Lola.
A Memorial Visitation will be held for Carol from 2 to 5 pm on Saturday, May 13, 2023, at the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, 63 High St, Newton.
