She was born August 16, 1918 in Catawba County to the late Craig Rowe and Pinkie Murray Cline. She was a member of Beth Eden Lutheran Church. She was very active in the church until her health prevented her continuing her activities. She was with Belk Stores in the credit department for many years until retirement. She loved working with flowers and was a former garden club member. She was a former member of Catawba Country Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul B. Smyre in 1999. After her husband’s passing, she moved from their home on South Brady Ave., in Newton, where they had lived for fifty two years, to the Village at Abernethy Laurels. Margie resided in the village for six years, in the assisted living for six years, and three years in health care.
Survivors left to cherish her memories are sons, Joel Craig Smyre of Raleigh, NC, Robert Paul Smyre and wife, Stephanie of North Myrtle Beach, SC; granddaughter, Beth Smyre of Cary, NC; sister, Gaye C. Keener and husband, Kenneth of Newton.
A service of remembrance will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, February 28, 2015 in the chapel of Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home, with Rev. Marcus Ollis officiating. A private burial will be held at Eastview Cemetery in Newton. The family will receive friends following the service at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home.
