Kimberly was born on January 7, 1960 adopted by parents Jack and Gertie Padgett, who considered her a gift, as she was the biological daughter of their beloved niece Evelyn McCoy. Evelyn at a young age told her aunt that one day she was going to have a baby and give it to her and Jack. Kim was that baby.
She graduated from high school and attended community college with a degree in Business; she then graduated from Retail Banking School at the University of Wisconsin and completed Human Resource Management at Purdue University.
Kimberly was an Executive Vice President and was on the Board of Directors at Peoples Bank, where she enjoyed working for over 30 years. She loved what she did for a living and loved the opportunity to work with people.
In 2017, she married the love of her life Frank Leaks.
Kimberly retired in 2024 after 40 years in the banking field. Throughout her life, she loved to spend time giving back to the community. She was active in numerous community service functions including the North Carolina Bankers Association DEI Council, North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service, Minority Business Women of Catawba County and Hickory Metro Higher Education Advisory Council. She also served as a board member for the Catawba Valley YMCA, Catawba County Dept. Social Services and the Volunteer Center for the Catawba County United Way. She also served as a spokesperson at numerous local community events speaking on topics such as Retail Banking and Women’s Leadership.
She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. She was a believer, an encouraging and inspirational soul always looking for the positive and praying for others. Spending time with her son and grandchildren brought her joy. She was passionate about writing poetry and public speaking. Her parents, Jack & Gertie Padgett and Evelyn McCoy, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband, Frank; and her son, Curtis Boyd and grandchildren, Langston Boyd, Carver Boyd and Layla Boyd. Also, family in Love Wanda Gadsden, Stephanie Johnson, Kim Bazzle, Velvet Burton and Dr. Iris Barrett
A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, August 23, 2024 at Maiden Chapel Baptist Church. The Dr. Iris Barrett will deliver the eulogy.
