Bessie Brennan Morgan

Bessie Brennan Morgan, age 93, of Newton, NC, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 27, 2017, at Conover Nursing & Rehabilitation. Born January 12, 1924, in Plaquemines Parish, LA, she was the daughter of the late John Edward Brennan and Josephine Angelo Shelton.

Bessie was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Newton, NC, where she was active in the Trinitarians and the Baptist Women’s Group. She was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her family and having lunch with her friends.

In addition to her parents, Bessie was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Raymond Morgan; grandson, Christopher Morgan; and brother, Lawrence B. Shelton, Jr.

Survivors include her daughters, Carol M. Tanner-Thornton of Spindale, NC, and Brenda M. Powell and husband Rick of Newton, NC; son, Danny R. Morgan, Sr. and wife Oene of Anacoco, LA; brother, Alfred Joseph Loga, Sr. of Blanchard, LA; grandchildren, Tonya Tanner-Cecil, Brennan E. Tanner, Danny Morgan, Jr., Nicky Hoppert, Ashley Racine, and Joshua Powell; great-grandchildren, Mercedes Morgan, Danny Morgan, III, Kennedy Hoppert, Raelynn Hoppert, Tanner Cecil, Caleb Cecil, Jackson Racine, Caden Racine, Aaron Powell, and Emily Powell.

The casket will lie in state and the family will gather at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home in Newton, NC, from 10:00 to 10:30 AM on Wednesday, November 29, 2017. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM at Catawba Memorial Park in Hickory, NC, with Rev. Brant Hoots officiating.
