Paula Louise Dean was born January 5, 1938, in Key west, Florida to George Dean II and Valderine Dean. Paula was a student in the Monroe School District and completed her education by graduating high school in 1956. After graduation Paula found herself moving from the East coast all the way to San Diego, California where she met and fell in love with Herman Fredric Fowler. Herman was an Air Force NCO and after leaving the Air Force he took a job at Lockheed and moved Paula and her two sons Derek and Brian to the San Fernando Valley.
Paula had always had a strong desire to be a teacher and decided to continue her education. While pursuing her teaching degree she worked as an executive assistant at Data Products in Mission Hills, California. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Cal State Los Angeles and with her degree Paula was able to share her teaching abilities with many students throughout the Los Angeles County School District. Her students loved her and would bless her with many gifts throughout the years. Some students would even visit her at home for tutoring or just to say hello.
She retired from teaching in 2005, but continued to tutor privately in the Antelope Valley. As well, Paula found her 2nd passion in reading and from this became an active member of the Oprah Winfrey Book Club. If you didn’t see Paula at home with what she called a “good book” you could find her at Barnes and Noble or the library reading, tutoring or meeting with her sorority sisters. Paula was an educator and a scholar, every person she taught and every life she touched…..
Paula was raised in a Christian home and accepted Christ when she was a young girl. While in the San Fernando Valley she was a dedicated member of Church on the Way in Van Nuys, California until relocating to the Antelope Valley where joined the Central Christian Church in Lancaster, California where she remained faithful until she became ill.
On September 6, 2019, Paula quietly transitioned into her eternal destiny. Preceding her passing are her parents George Dean II and Valderine Dean; siblings Carl Dean, Alvin Dean, Cherylynn Dean, Kevin Dean, Maude Dean and Weldon Dean.
Those left to cherish lasting memories of Paula are her two son Derek Fowler and Brian Fowler; three siblings Gary Dean, Donna Dean and Desiree Dean; three grandchildren Nicole Fowler, Tyrell Fowler and Chanise Flower; one great-grandson Marquis Fowler; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
