1934 – 2012
Hector R. Figueroa, age 78, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2012 surrounded by his family. He was a native Angelean, born in Angelus Hospital. His mother Aurora Contreras, was born in Sonora, Mexico and his father, Armando Figueroa was born in California.
Hector graduated from Dorsey High School, loved playing baseball and attended Los Angeles City College and USC. He honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War during which he played baseball for the Army team.
He was a legend in the film industry – having risen from a dolly grip, thru the ranks to be the first Key Grip to become a Director of Photography/Cinematographer. He was known for “lighting the ladies” beautifully, and was one of the pioneers in using the steadicam in the film industry.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Mary, and children: Lisa M. Figueroa, Mark M. (Becca) Figueroa, Stephen A. (Jen) Figueroa, Jeanette N. Griffin and Scott C. Griffin, his sister, Patricia Osuna, and niece, Francesca Osuna, and many loving cousins.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Parish, 22508 Copper Hill Drive, Santa Clarita, CA 91350.
