On Tuesday, October 25, 2022, Michael Jay Lackey loving husband, father and grandfather passed away at the age of 62. Mike was born November 14, 1959 in Evansville, IN to Lonny and Marilyn Lackey. He graduated from Castle High School and began his career as a lineman. For 43 years, he repaired lines, transformers, and turned on lights; working at SIGECO, Vectren and CenterPoint Energy. On June 21, 1980, he married Becky Gardner. They raised two amazing sons, Joseph and Matthew.
Mike loved spending time with his family and taking his grandsons fishing. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, a cold beer, helping others especially volunteering with his special needs friends, and many mission trips to Guatemala. He was member of the Newburgh United Methodist Church, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 702, Indiana Freemasons, and the Scottish Rite.
Mike is preceded in death by his father, Lonny and father-in-law, Charles Gardner.
He is survived by his wife, Becky; son, Joseph and daughter-in-law, Kristin; grandsons, Bryson and Grant; son, Matthew and significant other, Camille; mother, Marilyn Lackey; mother-in-law, Jewel Gardner; sister, Robin Higginbottom (Mark); brothers, John Lackey (Minan) and Chuck Lackey (Tracey), and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be Friday, October 28, 2022 at Newburgh United Methodist Church, 4178 Highway 261, Newburgh, IN 47630. Visitation is from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with service to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Newburgh United Methodist Church food pantry or special needs group.
