Fred J. Stanley

Fred J. Stanley, 82, of Newburgh, passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2023. He was born September 20, 1940 in Boxville, KY to the late J.C. and Joy Stanley. He attended Evansville College, University of Maryland and USI. Fred served in the United States Air Force on active duty from 1959 to 1964 as an air traffic controller and was a member of the Air Force AACS Alumni Association. He learned conversational German when he was stationed in Germany from 1960 to 1963. Fred retired from Sears Roebuck in 1999 and worked at USI until he retired again in 2003. He enjoyed reading history, science and philosophy. He collected family photographs and enjoyed researching family history. Fred was preceded in death by son, Gary Wright. Fred is survived by his wife of 38 years, Jane Stanley; children, Jim Stanley (Susanne), Erika Ray (Troy), Julie Stanley, Mark Wright (Audrey), and Debi Wilson; grandchildren, James and Michael Stanley, Sharon Barnes, Corey, Ryan, and Javen Wilson (Marybeth), Alex and Kelsey Wright, Lauren Bozarth (Jared), and Brooke Wright; great grandchildren, Cruz, Michael, Daniel, and Javen Jr.; and siblings, Bill Stanley (Lanette), James L. Stanley (Sue) and Norma Stanley Downen (Ken). A Celebration of Life Service will be 3:00 p.m., Friday, July 7, 2023 at Alexander Newburgh Chapel, 5333 State Road 261. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. Friday until service time.
